Batteries and Accumulators Compliance
Businesses who place batteries and accumulators on the market within the territory of Malta on a professional basis are required to recover and recycle such materials. GreenPak is an ERA authorised national waste recovery organisation licensed to recover and recycle batteries and accumulators on behalf of businesses.
Portable battery or accumulator means any battery, button cell, battery pack or accumulator that:
(a) is sealed; and
(b) can be hand-carried; and
(c) is neither an industrial battery or accumulator nor an automotive battery or accumulator
Light means of transport battery or LMT battery means any battery that is sealed and weights below or equal to 25kg, designed to proved traction to wheeled vehicles that can be powered by the electric motor alone or by a combination of motor and human power including type-approved vehicle of category L in the meaning of Regulation (EU) No 168/2013, and that is not an electric vehicle battery.
Automotive battery or accumulator means any battery or accumulator used for automotive starter, lighting or ignition power.
Industrial battery or accumulator means any battery or accumulator designed for exclusively industrial or professional uses or used in any type of electric vehicle.
Electric vehicle battery or EV battery means any battery designed to provide traction to hybrid or electric vehicles of type-approved categories M, N and O in the meaning of Regulation (EU) 2018/858 or any battery that weights above 25kg, designed to provide traction to vehicles of type-approved category L in the meaning of Regulation (EU) No 168/2013.
